A new security fence around an Egyptian tourism hot-spot - the site of recent terrorist attacks - is getting mixed attitudes.

The main protest of the fence around Sharm el-Sheik has come from local Bedouins, according to Al-Ahram Weekly.

Relations between Bedouins and the government has been rocky, especially after terrorist attacks three months ago when security forces carried out mass raids and arrests in the neighborhoods.

Government officials say the fence, equipped with checkpoints to allow vehicles into the area, will deter terrorists.

South Sinai Governor Mustafa Afifi said the fence will help control the effect of heavy seasonal rains and will reduce the number of vehicle-camel crashes that occur on the Sharm el-Sheik highway.

The tourist industry is not sure how to take the fence.

Some fear it will take away from the vacation feeling when visitors see security patrols around the town.

Others say it will create reassurance that vacationers are secure, UPI reports.
