US Senate Appropriation Committee unanimously approved $5 million funding for "advancing democracy" in Belarus.

According to &to=http://www.rian.ru' target=_blank>RIA Novosti, this money bill will be considered in the session of the Senate on Monday. The Appropriation Committee recommends spending at least $2 millions of the allocated sum on the direct support of "democratic political parties and processes" in Belarus. The distribution of the money will be overseen by the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor of the US Department of State. This bureau is headed by Michael G. Kozak, U.S. Ambassador to Belarus. Earlier in his career, Mr Kozak served as Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Inter-American Affairs under Presidents Reagan and Bush, working in Panama, Nicaragua and El Salvador. He once admitted in an interview given to the Times that he was pursuing in Belarus a policy similar to that in 1980s Nicaragua, in which anti-government Contra terrorists were funded and supported by US.
