Kostya Tszyu, the Australian &to=http:// english.pravda.ru/main/2003/03/10/44210.html ' target=_blank>boxing champion fought with American Sharmba Mitchell yesterday. He has retained his IBF junior welterweight tittle after beating Mitchell in a simple and at the same time a devastating combination of killer punches.
Tszyu had not fought for 22 months but in just the second round of his comeback he announced his return to the big time with a powerful right that sent Mitchell to his knees.
It was the start of an awesome &to=http:// english.pravda.ru/sport/2001/06/24/8618.html ' target=_blank>Tszyu onslaught that stunned the 8000 fight fans at the Glendale Arena.
By the third round, Mitchell was again on the canvas after another punishing Tszyu right found its mark, as Melbourne Herald Sun reported.
"He hit me with a punch that I didn't see," Mitchell said. "I have never ever been hurt like that ever.
"I said 's...' to myself when I was on the ground and then I got up and said, 'I'm gonna kill his ass'. I got up and then he caught me with another one."
A jubilant Tszyu later said: "I was in the best form ever.
"I was very confident, this is a great knockout and great victory for me. I don't like to talk, what I do in the ring speaks for me."
But Tszyu did say he had a simple tactic to beat Mitchell, a tactic he had spent almost two years planning, informs Fox Sports.
According to The Australian, with &to=http:// english.pravda.ru/world/2002/06/10/30094.html ' target=_blank>Mike Tyson watching from ringside at a raucous Glendale Arena in Phoenix, Tszyu was reminiscent of the ferocious Iron Mike of 20 years ago in retaining his International Boxing Federation junior welterweight belt with a third round knock-out.
"Man, he looked great tonight," Tyson said.
At 35, Tszyu, with a record of 31 wins and one loss with 24 knock-outs, has nothing left to prove and will lace his gloves only for the big fights.
"It can be a perfect scenario to retire," Tszyu said after referee Raul Caiz cradled the visibly shaken Mitchell in his arms to end the fight with 12 seconds remaining in the third round.
"I achieved everything. That's why I said, 'Give me the good deal and give me the good reason why I need to fight, then we'll talk. So I'm not retiring yet."
