Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma believes that the problem of Ukrainian-Russian borders should not be linked to that of forming a common economic space between Ukraine, Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan. The four countries signed the CES agreement at a recent summit of the Commonwealth of Independent States in Yalta.

"I wouldn't link the problem of the Ukrainian-Russian border with the formation of the common economic space," Leonid Kuchma said at a Wednesday press conference in Kiev.

Simultaneously, he stressed that Ukraine "is interested in as deep as possible cooperation with Russia" and other countries of the CIS, including Belarus and Kazakhstan.

"If we manage to take the first step towards the creation of a free trade zone without limitations, it will be our great victory," believes the Ukrainian leader.

He explained the importance of creating the zone by the signatory countries being "extremely in need of sales markets."
