Russian scientists start using ‘ice intelligence’

Vladimir Sokolov, the leading scientific researcher and the head of the high-latitude arctic expedition, says that the ‘North Pole’ specialists examined the quality of the photosurveying made by ‘Eleron’ and made the sketch map of the station’s flight landing strip. With the help of photomontage glaciologists managed to examine the ice situation on a vast territory and calculate the thickness of the seasonal arctic ice.

The expedition representative also said that scientists continue to define phosphates, silicates, salinity, general alcanity and general inorganic carbon in the tests of young ice. This is essential for making a complete picture of the ice cover of the Arctic basin of Arctic Ocean. Also, during the last week 14 radiosondes were released in the atmosphere for the altitude up to 30 kilometers (18 miles).
