The study was conducted by the Department of Etiological Research, Cancer Registry of Norway, on the basis of data from 400,000 female breast cancer patients.

The participants were of different age – between 50 and 69-years old.

The findings showed that women between the ages of 50 and 59-years old had faster breast cancer tumor growth compared to the women aged 60 to 69-years old.

The detailed analysis helped reveal the speed of tumor growth. It took 1.4 years for the breast cancer tumor to grow from 10 mm to 20 mm in the group of women aged between 50 and 59.

While older women (the other group aged 60-69) revealed slower results – the tumor gains the same size in 2.1 years.

The study may actually help in planning and evaluating screening programs, clinical trials and other studies.
