Jeffrey S. Raikes was named the new CEO of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (B&MGF), the largest transparently operated charitable foundation in the world.

Raikes will replace Patty Stonesifer, another former Microsoft executive, who stood at the origins Foundation together with Bill and Melinda Gates.

Jeffrey S. Raikes was president of Microsoft Business Division of Microsoft Corporation. since September 20, 2005 Mr. Raikes has been Group Vice President, Information Worker Business of Microsoft Corp. since June 2004. He joined in 1981 and has been Group Vice President, Sales and Support of Microsoft Corp. since July 1998 and Group Vice President, Sales and Marketing since July 1996. He served as Member of Senior Leadership Team, and was responsible for developing and guiding.

Raikes will join the foundation on Sept. 2.

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation was founded by Bill and Melinda Gates in 2000 and doubled in size by Warren Buffett in 2006. The primary aims of the foundation are, globally, to enhance healthcare and reduce extreme poverty, and, in the United States , to expand educational opportunities and access to information technology. The foundation, based in Seattle, Washington, is controlled by its three trustees: Bill Gates, Melinda Gates, and Warren Buffett. It has an endowment of US$38.7 billion as of December 31, 2007.
