Russian President Vladimir Putin and Greek President Konstandinos Stephanopoulos arrived in Vergina, a tiny city located not far from Salonika and famous for its archeological discoveries of the world-wide significance. The heads of the two states visited the archeological museum built on the burial site of Macedonian Tzars. Here Philipp II, father of Aleksander the Macedonian was buried. The site was also the seat of the first capital of Macedonia, the city of Aegae. The location became world-known in 1977 when Manolis Andropikos, a prominent Greek archeologist, discovered Tzars burial place, including the tomb of Philipp II. This discovery became one of the most outstanding achievements of archeology in the 20th century.
