Cracks were found on the disc brakes on most coaches during routine inspections, Amtrak said in a statement, adding that no brake failures or other safety problems had occurred.
Amtrak spokeswoman Sarah Swain told Associated Press Radio the problem was limited to the Acela Express trains and said service will remain canceled until the problem is fixed.
Most other Amtrak service was scheduled to operate normally. Amtrak said its Metroliner service will operate Friday, with the exception of train No. 102, the 10 a.m. departure from &to=http:// english.pravda.ru/main/2003/02/10/43193.html ' target=_blank>Washington to New York, which also was canceled.
The first snub-nosed Acela Express entered service Dec. 11, 2000. Running only in the Northeast corridor, the trains can reach speeds of 150 mph and feature amenities such as conference tables in passenger cars, pub-style cafe cars with expanded menus and three audio music channels with headphone outlets at each seat, informs the Guardian Unlimited.

Amtrak normally operates 15 Acela Express weekday round-trips between New York and Washington and 11 Acela Express weekday round-trips between New York and Boston.
