An area of almost 230,000 hectares has been enveloped by 409 forest fires in Russia, of which 206,000 hectares - by 99 strong fires, RIA Novosti was told on Monday at the information department of the emergencies ministry.
A total of 6,887 people have been involved in combating fire as well as 1,043 pieces of surface equipment and 60 planes.
The greatest number of fires have been registered in the Siberian federal district, 120 in the Irkutsk region, 98 in Chita region, of which 48 are big fires, and 42 in Buryatia (14 big fires).
